CANDACE LEIGH NEAL After an entire childhood of singing along to Mom’s Billy Joel cassette tapes and Dad’s old Beatles CD’s, it’s no surprise that Candace Neal’s debut album, “Music From A Can,” is a quirky and fresh take on a foundation of classic, piano-driven rock. Whether it’s the rhythmic tinker of her piano or the fetching clickety-clack of her tiny egg shaker, Candace’s music is likely to make your feet bounce. The completely original album is a vibrant spectrum of emotion, covering everything from playful school girl crushes to profound, definitive ballads of love and love unreturned. Tracks are interlaced with the humor of everyday trials and tribulations as well as the tear-jerking toils of romance. A strong and resounding piano blends beautifully with Candace’s smoky, soulful vocals and a chirpy array of upbeat percussion and Queen-like guitars. When asked to describe her album, Candace likens the ten-tune compilation to a cupcake: “Deliciously colorful and sickeningly sweet with enough flavors to satisfy any individual if you’ll just remove the wrapper and give it a taste.” With songs that drive like those of Sara Bareilles and arrangements that harken back to the sprightly songwriting of Paul McCartney, Candace hopes to make an ear or two happy. The North Carolina native (now residing in Orlando, Fl) is a completely self-taught, self-made performer who built this record with little funds and the incredible assistance of amazing producer, Jameson Boyce (a fellow musician who learned of Candace’s songwriting capabilities through the wonders of Youtube). She seeks to inspire all aspiring artists that it doesn’t take millions of dollars or fancy equipment to write a simple melody that will make someone’s heart dance.
